LOCAL BUSINESS ADVERTISEMENT OPPORTUNITY WITH A CARTOON MAP

Mayor Jimmy/City of Walker and Mr. Map of Slidell have entered into an agreement to produce a cartoon map for the City of Walker. The map will consist of local businesses being able to purchase images of themselves or their businesses in the form of caricatures.
“This is an opportunity to showcase our growing community” according to the Mayor. “Walker’s growth has led the area over the past ten years and this is a unique opportunity to personalize that growth through Mr. Map.”
Businesses will be able to have their images placed on the map for $495 which includes up to two caricatures and a building or other image (equipment, etc.) and signage. A small number of display ads are available for purchase on the folded map’s back cover. Each client receives a minimum of 25 maps to distribute as they see fit. The images produced for each client are owned outright by the client with no additional charges or annual payments to be used for any purpose by the client.
The city will showcase ten Walker sites under city control. The map will be available through all advertisers and the city, plus any other neutral locations able to distribute the free map. The map will also be available online.
Mr. Map has created 36 maps in fourteen separate markets with more than 4,000 clients, including three maps in nearby Zachary. Central will also have a map done this year as well.
Mr. Map works well with school districts. Zachary and Plaquemines Parish have both done maps including all their schools depicted and maps available to every fourth and fifth grader in the system, plus additional maps for staff and students in other grades. “The maps show what a community is like in real time,” according to Tony Onellion, creator of Mr. Map. “It gives students a sense of belonging and familiarity and helps instill a sense of understanding geography, which has been lacking in recent years. They’re just fun!”
Mr. Map began in Slidell 20 years ago. Among those with their caricatures on the maps include former Louisiana John Bel Edwards, Lieutenant Governor/Tourism Director Billy Nungesser, several mayors and state lawmakers and celebrities including Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone, Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts and Sally Fields.
Mr. Map maps can be viewed at https://mrcartoonmap.com/ and clicking on Gallery. Eight maps are shown on the site.
Each participant gets a flag and pole set up kit.
**If you are interested in having your business displayed in the map, please email lisa.frey@walker-la.gov provide the contact name, number, email you would like to be contacted at and Mr. Onellion will be in touch to obtain further information.

NOTICE: Dawn Street Closed for Safety Repairs

Due to a roadway failure, Dawn Street is currently closed to traffic. The closure will remain in place until a permanent repair is designed and constructed.

Drivers should use alternate routes and avoid the work area. The City appreciates the cooperation and patience of nearby residents as we work to restore safe access.

WINTER SAFETY TIPS

 **GAS METER SAFETY**

Natural gas meters must have at least 3 feet of clear space around them to ensure safety and accessibility. This includes keeping vegetation trimmed, avoiding placing objects like garbage cans, bikes, vehicles, or equipment near the meter, and ensuring gates are unlocked for access.

Clear access allows utility workers to safely perform readings, maintenance, or respond to emergencies without delay.
As your natural gas provider, your safety is our top priority—if you notice any damage or have concerns, contact us immediately.
